Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

Pinnawala elephant orphanage is a captive breeding and conservation institute for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village,

13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world.

The orphanage was founded to care and protect the many orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The Pinnawala zoo

The Pinnawala zoo is home for the many endemic animals in Sri Lanka. The zoo is located at Pinnawala village,

13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of Kegalle town in Sri Lanka near Pinnawala elephant orphanage.

The zoo is divided into 7 enclosures. They are the monkey island, Bird aviary, Amphibian area, and Pet areas. (150m from Elepath Lodge).

Pinnawala ape gama

Pinnawala ape gama (Old village/Rural village) is a theme park which is situated in Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka. It is also known as Pinnawala Iperanigama Theme Park.

At Pinnawala Ape Gama, visitors get a chance to delve into the ancient village setting of Sri Lanka. It was constructed on a four-acre land close to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.

Features of the theme park include Kammal Gedara ( home of Blacksmith ), Govi Gedara (Farmer's home), Wadu Gedara (Carpenter's home), Weda Gedara (Ayurvedic doctor's home), Arachchige Gedara (home of Chief of village), Kopi Kade (Ancient coffee shop), demonstrations of industrial affairs (like Handloom, silver, handicraft), replicas of rivers, paddy fields and dagoba etc. (150m from Elepath Lodge)
